Dhina scores 50

The music director gets talking about his experience while scoring music for his 50th film

For music composer Dhina, Seedan is one of the most important films in his career.
After all, this is the 50th film for which he's composing music. "When I work on a film, I take utmost care to bring out a good score. I made heads turn with Manmadha Rasa... and now, Seedan has the same combination, that of director Subramania Shiva and Dhanush. I hope it works out to our advantage," begins Dhina.
The music of the film will have an ethnic touch.

"The Tamil culture and custom plays an important role in both the film and its music. Interestingly, the situations in which I wanted to insert a song coincided with what Shiva had in mind. I was able to deliver the tunes spontaneously as well."
Dhina has composed six songs for the film. "Dhanush's introduction song, Saravana Samaya, is my favourite. Pa Vijay has penned its lyrics using a lot of 'kitchen terms'.
It's a classical fusion and Dhanush has delivered dialogues in between the song," says Dhina and adds, "Jagana Jagana... is a fastpaced number and has some brilliant choreography. Yelelo Valliamma... is a folk song that will recount the tale of Lord Muruga in a way that even kids will understand.
It has been picturised in Palani and will feature several folk dances like mayilattam and puliattam. I've used several ethnic instruments like bamboo flute, yaazh and veena to score the music. All the songs are based on particular ragas as well," he informs.

As Dhina scores half a century in Kollywood, he says he's grateful to all the producers, directors and actors with whom he worked. "I started in 2003 and until now, all the films I've worked on have been a learning experience. After Seedan, I'm awaiting the launch of Sarath Kumar's Vidiyal," he signs off.
