Films are not new to Malavika as she has already worked in four films in Mollywood. But, she makes her debut in Tamil cinema with Cuckoo, directed by Raju Murugan. I want to leave my mark in the industry and I want to explore myself as an actress, says this debutante. The actress says that her performance as the female lead in the Malayalam remake of
Vazhakku Enn 18/9 helped her get this project.
I heard that director Balaji Sakthivel was impressed with my performance in the film and recommended me to Raju Murugan. I feel fortunate to debut in Tamil industry with a beautiful film like Cuckoo; it is my dream debut.
Malavika says she had apprehensions before taking up the role. When I listened to the script, I felt that I might not be talented enough to do such a challenging role. But, I was asked to participate in a workshop conducted by the director with visually-challenged people. This gave me confidence to take up the role of Sudhandhirakodi. My interaction with visually-challenged people helped me get into the skin of the character. I also watched a lot of films which had impressive blind characters and got an idea on how to play my character, she says.
She also acknowledges the support of the team of
Cuckoo, The director was clear in what he wanted out of his actors. He helped me carry such an emotional role on my shoulders. My co-star
Dinesh, too, supported me a lot.
