CHENNAI: The first additional sessions court judge
Chandrashekar sentenced actress
Saritha alias Sangeetha, a resident of Red Hills, to life imprisonment and fined her 5,000 for murdering an upcoming director Selva. 40, on March 6, 2007. The actress confessed to having killed the debutant director.
Sangeetha told police that Selva had rented two rooms in a lodge in Vadapalani to discuss a movie project with some actors, including her.
On the night of March 5, 2007, Sangeetha, who nursed a grudge against Selva for not being paid, strangled him. Later, she locked the room and fled.
A special team arrested Sangeetha and she was remanded in custody. Later she obtained bail and went into hiding for seven years. In 2014 she was again nabbed and remanded in judicial custody.
After three months of cross examination of witnesses and arguments, the verdict was delivered on Friday.
