Leo movie release: Vijay Thalapathy is a massive star; Leo will cross Rs 200 crores in the opening week
Leo, starring Vijay Thalapathy and directed by Lokesh Kangaraj, opened in theaters on Thursday and enjoyed a massive opening.
Film trade analyst, producer, and distributor Girish Wankhede feels optimistic about the film's business at the box office. "We expect big business for Leo because Vijay Thalapathy is a massive star. It will cross Rs 200 crore in the very first week," Girish estimates.
"Leo was released only on non-national cinema screens.
1x1 polls
National multiplex chains like PVR-Inox and Cinepolis have not released it owing to the tussle on the window of OTT release. But the early morning shows for South Korean superstars are an old practice wherein fans across the globe garland the posters and dance and celebrate the opening shows. The trend, which started in the South, has spread globally, and now it is happening in Aurora in Matunga, Mumbai, and Carnival Cinemas in Singapore," he adds.
Girish believes South films have gained a huge following beyond the stronghold of the southern region and are now finding feet in Tier 1 and 2 cities of other regions as well. "The popularity of South Indian films is increasing because of a lot of dubbed content on TV. The number of consumers consuming this content has also increased in the North. Even Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities have a big following after the super successful run of Pushpa and KGF."
Leo marks a reunion between Vijay and Kangaraj after the blockbuster film 'Master'. It also features Sanjay Dutt, Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja, Mansoor Ali Khan, Priya Anand, Mysskin, and Gautham Vasudev Menon.
