Mollywood calling Kollywood!
One-time popular Kollywood actors who are finding it difficult to get solo hero roles in Tamil are now making a beeline to Mollywood, where they are doing parallel hero roles.
Sarath Kumar, Sathyaraj, Prabhu, Thyagarajan, Thalaivasal Vijay and Prakash Raj have all become popular in Kerala, thanks to the Malayalam film industry.
Apart from being showered with love, the Malayalam film industry also pays them a decent sum for their efforts and whats more, work there gets over in 15 to 20 days.
1x1 polls

Nadigar Sangam chief Sarath Kumar has become the busiest actor in the Malayalam film industry, following the mega success of his Pazhassi Raja. The actors warrior role Edachena Kunkan in the film created quite a sensation in the Malayalam film industry. The film, directed by Hariharan, not only won critical acclaim but also did well at the box-office, thereby ensuring the acceptance of Sarath Kumar as an action hero.
Now, Sarath is doing two more films in Malayalam Christian Brothers and Oridathoru Postman. In the multi-starrer Christian Brothers, directed by veteran director Joshy, Sarath shares screen space with Mohanlal, Dileep and Suresh Gopi. In Oridathoru Postman, which has Bobban Kunchacko and Innocent playing son and father, Sarath Kumar plays a mystery character who saves the hero from his predicaments.
Sathyaraj was brilliant as an army officer with a dark past in Kamal-directed Aagathan, in which he was pitted opposite Dileep. It was Sathyarajs role that made all the difference to the edge-of-the-seat suspense thriller. When
Mammootty could not play the lead role in Yugapurushan, which is based on the life and times of the great social reformer, philosopher and the legendary figure of Kerala, Sree Narayana Guru, director R Sukumaran decided to cast Thalaivasal Vijay in this important role as he bore an uncanny resemblance to Narayana Guru!
Prabhu is doing an important cameo with Mammootty in B Unnikrishnan-directed Pramani which is releasing today in Kerala. Says Prabhu, I did a cameo role in Pramani because it gave me an opportunity to do a film with Mammootty. I think Mammooka is one of the finest actors in the country and its an honour to do a film with him. He is also a great fan of appa (the legendary Sivaji Ganesan).
Veteran actor Thiagarajan recently made a special appearance as Nayantharas father in Bodyguard. The role was a pivotal one. The entire story revolves around Thiagarajans decision to make Dileep, his daughters bodyguard.
Prakash Raj, whose love for the off-beat got him a National award, is doing art house director Shyama Prasads Electra, which is based on a Greek play. Manisha Koirala will play his wife in the film while Nayanthara will play his daughter! Meanwhile, there are rumours that Action King Arjun may play an important role in Major Ravis Mohanlal-Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Kandahar. The movie, a tri-lingual, will be made in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi.
Even up and coming actor Ganesh Venkataraman has joined this brigade by signing up to do Casanova, the Roshan Andrews-directed film with Mohanlal and Sameera Reddy in the lead.
Concludes a leading Malayalam director, Tamil actors who do Malayalam films know that they have pivotal roles in which their heroism will come across. And all of them have great respect for Malayalam actors, especially Mohanlal and Mammootty. The have absolutely no ego issues when it comes to doing parallel roles in Malayalam.
