Newlywed Varalaxmi Sarathkumar on doing films after marriage: ‘Nikolai is my love, but cinema is my life’

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar tied the knot with Mumbai-based gallerist Nicholai Sachdev in an intimate ceremony earlier this month at a beach resort in Krabi, Thailand. Following the wedding, the couple hosted a wedding reception in Chennai, which was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, music composer AR Rahman, actor-politician Suresh Gopi, actor Jackie Shroff, actor Kichcha Sudeep, actor Balakrishna, actor Venkatesh and filmmaker Mani Ratnam among others.
Newlyweds Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Nikolai Sachdev, recently addressed the media and spoke about their journey.In the press meet Nicholai said, “I don’t know Tamil, but I am learning, and soon I will speak in Tamil. My wife is not just beautiful, talented, and a great actress but she is a lot more than that. My wife is an amazing actress, and I am so proud and inspired by her every day. Chennai is home for us because our ancestors, my wife’s ancestors, and her family live there. Varalaxmi will act in cinema even after marriage. Cinema is her first love.”
Varalaxmi expressed that she has been getting questions on whether she would act after marriage, “Many people asked me if I would act after marriage. My husband answered. Nikolai is my love, but cinema is my life.”
She further added, expressed, “I wanted to invite all the journalists to the wedding. I couldn’t call because it was election time. I wanted to meet you after the marriage, and that’s why this meeting is going on. Nikolai is a very good man. By God’s grace, both of them met and got married. Varalaxmi will continue to act in the films. May your love and support continue to be with them.”

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar’s husband Nicholai also clarified about why he and his daughter decided to take her name, “She said that she wants to change her name after marriage. Of course, she’d never lose Sarathkumar in the middle, but she wanted to add Sachdev to her name. But I will not have that. She will always remain and retain her name as Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. I will be taking her name. I will be known as Nicholai Varalaxmi Sarathkumar Sachdev. And so will my daughter, so Sarathkumar and my wife Varalaxmi’s legacy will live on forever. That’s what I am going to do for my wife.”
