Anti-Hindi protest theme triggers major censor cuts
The main plot of the film ‘Parasakthi’ revolves around the anti-Hindi agitations in the state of Madras in the 1960s. It is said that the visuals and dialogues are made to accurately depict the political and social issues of the time. According to a report by News 18, the movie was recently submitted to the censor board for review. During this process, significant cuts were made to some critical visuals and dialogues pertaining to the anti-Hindi agitations. The censor board has also apparently commented on the issuance of the certificate subject to the removal of some scenes.
Inside Kollywood’s 2025 Crisis and Uncertain Future
A threat to the film’s core message
The whole film team expressed their displeasure clearly. The director and producer feel that if the censors agree to all the cuts proposed, the film's theme and historical context will not fully come across.
The director believes that since this is not just an ordinary commercial film but a period captured in film as well as the militant nature of the struggle to capture a certain genre in film, certain cuts that are recommended would alter the truth of the film. This is why the film team has taken the courageous step of sending 'Parasakthi' to be revised, defying the decision of the censor board.
Revising the committee verdict to decide the 'Parasakthi' release
In this context, the question that fans are asking is whether the movie will appear on January 10 as expected. The decision of the revising committee and the deadline for the certificate have both become the principal factors affecting the date of the movie’s release. Also, it is noteworthy to consider the box office competition with the release of Vijay’s movie ‘Jana Nayagan’ on January 9. However, the position of the filmmakers, which is to refuse any censorship demands, will not be manifested in a decrease of the movie’s content.
