Directed by Mani Ratnam, 'Ponniyin Selvan' is a historic epic drama adapted from the novel. The story revolves around the rise of Chola Empire. Starring Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles, the music for the movie is composed by AR Rahman. The film has huge expectations from audience and it is expected that the movie will break all the set records in the box office till date.

Fans say comparing 'Baahubali' and 'Ponniyin Selvan' is absurd
As 'Ponniyin Selvan' released in theatres on September 30, Twitter had a trending topic 'Baahubali' vs 'Ponniyin Selvan'. Fans and movie audience who watched both the films compared the visuals, graphics and storyline. However, a few internet users found it absurd and not necessary and requested other movie audience to not make the comparison as both the films are much different in genre. A Twitter user wrote, "#PonniyanSelvan is a magnificent piece of Period CINEMA (Proper Cinema, not Movie) with an outstanding cast. For period cinema lovers, it doesn't get any better than this. Comparing it with Bahubali is just amateurishly silly."

Mani Ratnam says he owes it to Rajamouli's 'Baahubali' for the idea!
Mani Ratnam also in an interview with a news daily reportedly said that Rajamouliās āBaahubaliā created a road for the film to be made into two parts so it will be easy for the audience to consume it. He added that he owes it to the āRRRā director as otherwise, the crew would have tried to fit the entire film in one part making it impossible to shoot and edit.
