Regina Cassandra opens up about challenges and triumphs of female roles in big-budget films

Actress Regina Cassandra, who played a pivotal role in the recent blockbuster 'Vidaamuyarchi', starring Ajith in the lead role and directed by Magizh Thirumeni, shared her thoughts on the evolving landscape of female roles in big-budget films. She also expressed her disappointment regarding some of the experiences she's had in the industry. Hence, working in her recent film was so refreshing for her.
In a candid interview with Indiaglitz Tamil, she said “Generally, in big-budget films, female characters are often sidelined or poorly written. This has been a major disappointment for me over the years,” she said. However, she praised director Magizh Thirumeni for crafting a bold and complex character that gave her ample scope to perform. “He made me believe that no one else could portray this role better than me. His trust in my abilities gave me immense confidence,” she added.
She further expressed her gratitude for the director’s faith in her, acknowledging that such opportunities are rare. “I trusted that he had specifically written a powerful role for me, and I’m thankful for that belief,” Regina shared. Talking about the significance of well-developed female characters, she noted, “The strength of a film often lies in how the female character is crafted. That’s why I place complete trust in directors when taking on a project.” However, she didn’t shy away from admitting her past disappointments, stating, “Some directors have let me down by offering poorly written roles despite their initial promises. Because of these experiences, I now carefully select roles that offer uniqueness and depth.”
