But 'Kochadaiiyaan', which was made on a huge budget, did not gross considerably as it failed to attract the audience. In this situation, Ad-Bureau filed a fraud case in Bangalore High Court in 2016, alleging that Murali, the owner of Media One, did not return the loaned money. Therefore, the police registered a case against Murali and Latha Rajinikanth under the headings of attempt to cheat, tampering with the evidence, and submission of false report, and filed a chargesheet in the court.
Following it Latha Rajinikanth filed an appeal in the Karnataka High Court seeking quashing of the police chargesheet. The High Court heard the case and quashed only Sections 196 (forgery of the document), 199 (submission of false statement to court), and 420 (fraud) of the Indian Penal Code, stating that adequate evidence was not submitted. But allowed the Bangalore High Court to proceed with the trial under the tampering of evidence sections.
Hence, Ad-Bureau filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Bangalore High Court's dissolution of the 3 sections while Latha Rajinikanth filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Bangalore court's trial.
