Apsychiatrist is someone who has immense convincing skills. But, if someone had the power to convince a psychiatrist to bend the rules thats the premise of our new Tamil play titled Kurukku Vazhiyil Traffic Jam, starts off Vivek Rajagopal of Chennai Drama House, which premieres its third play this Friday. Humour is this directors forte, as proved with his successful outings in
Kandapadi Kandupudi and
Indru Poi Netru Vaa.
With his latest, he plans to further consolidate the groups expertise in the genre. For those who have enjoyed our previous plays, well give them the same satisfaction they derived then. For the newer audiences, we promise a couple of hours full of hilarious moments. Therell be a lot of jokes that you can take back home, he says, Weve avoided situational humour. And most importantly, all the jokes will be clean ones. The play uses the character of a hot-headed money-thirty actor and showcases the rule-bending mentality of people.
Social networking, he feels, can be used in a big way to reach out to newer audiences. The Internet and its power should be used by Tamil theatre to touch base with theatre lovers, he explains, But to hold them once they come to the halls, we need to come up with interesting themes.
All his three plays revolved around the humour element and they feel that the rib-tickling one-liners and interesting jokes are their USP. We look up to theatre personalities like Crazy Mohan, Cho and
K Balachander sir for inspiration, adds Vivek.
This is one group of youngsters keenly interested in theatre and reaching Tamil drama to audiences whove never seen the magic that the stage offers. We have a lot of fun during rehearsals, cracking jokes and improvising on our lines, explains Devaraj Perumal, one of the actors, Were the same fun-loving bunch on stage as well and thats one of the reasons why weve clicked with the audiences.
