The long-standing dispute between the Tamil Film Producers' Council (TFPC) and the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) has been resolved today. According to News 18, in a case filed in the
Madras High Court, the court, which recorded a settlement between the two parties, issued an order closing the case. With this, it can be said that the industrial chaos that had been going on for a few months has come to an end.
FEFSI’s retaliatory boycott had stalled film productions
Initially, the Producers' Association had formed a new workers' organization to oppose FEFSI's actions. FEFSI strongly opposed the formation of the new union under the name "Tamil Nadu Film Workers' Association." Following this, on April 2, 2024, FEFSI sent a letter to its members advising them not to work on films produced by members of the Producers' Guild. This led to the halting of the production and shooting of many films.
The High Court appointed retired Judge Govindarajan
Due to this problem, the Producers' Association approached the High Court and filed a case. The court, which heard the case, appointed retired Judge Govindarajan as a mediator and ordered consultations with both parties. After several rounds of court-ordered negotiations, both unions reportedly relaxed their demands and agreed to cooperate with each other.
Judge Dhanpal records compromise
The case came up for hearing again before Judge Dhanpal today. The mediator's report stated that both sides had reached a compromise. The judge, who recorded this, stated, "I am confident that the conflict between the two parties will not continue any longer," and closed the case. With this, the cinema worker-producer issue that had arisen in the Tamil film industry is considered to have been resolved amicably.
