Vetri Maaran reveals the reason why GV Prakash Kumar transformed into an actor
GV Prakash, who started his career as a music composer, has now transformed into a successful actor as well, and his 25th film, 'Kingston,' is preparing for a theatrical release. The milestone film of GV Prakash promises to be an action-packed deep-sea adventure. Scheduled for release on March 7, the movie has generated considerable excitement. To mark the occasion, a grand trailer launch event was held in Chennai on Feb 27, with renowned filmmakers like Vetrimaaran, Pa. Ranjith, Ashwath Marimuthu, and Sudha Kongara attending as special guests. At the event, director Vetrimaaran spoke about GV Prakash’s dedication and versatility. He admired how GV has successfully juggled both music and acting without ever letting his busy schedule become an excuse. Reflecting on a conversation from a decade ago, Vetrimaaran recalled that GV had once expressed a desire to explore acting because he felt confined within a studio as a composer. At the time, many people, including Vetrimaaran himself, advised him to focus solely on music. However, once GV stepped into acting, it deepened his understanding of films, characters, and storytelling, which in turn enriched his musical compositions.
Vetrimaaran also praised GV Prakash’s continuous passion for learning and his willingness to push boundaries. He revealed that GV had recently informed him about his plans to turn producer, describing Kingston as an ambitious project featuring Tamil cinema’s first deep-sea adventure, helmed by a debut director. Vetrimaaran was particularly impressed by the elaborate set built for the film. Initially assuming it had been created with a massive budget, he was surprised to learn that it was accomplished within a much smaller financial scope, showcasing GV’s resourcefulness as a producer.
Concluding his speech, Vetrimaaran expressed confidence that if 'Kingston' succeeds, it will inspire GV Prakash to take on even more innovative projects in Tamil cinema. He lauded GV’s enthusiasm and commitment, stating that he approaches every venture with immense passion. Encouraging audiences to support the film, he emphasized that 'Kingston' could mark a significant turning point in GV Prakash’s journey as an artist and producer.
