Boyapati: All my films have been hits, my formula is working
With Jaya Janaki Nayaka being hailed as an “unanimous hit” director Boyapati Srinivas is on cloud nine. “I’ve been receiving congratulatory calls from my colleagues in the industry and distributors abroad. I believe the appreciation will continue because I have made a good film. Jaya Janaki Nayaka has all the elements of a hit film,” he says adding, “I believe films should be made only with an airtight script.

My films have all been a success, which means, my formula is definitely working.”
One of the highlights of the film is the ‘Sangeet Song’ — Rangu Rangula Kallajodu, which is set in the backdrop of Nandoo’s (who plays Bellamkonda Srinivas’s brother) lavish wedding. “We erected a huge set at a lavish home in Bangkok and shot it with a massive crew. The song turned out beautifully, and it feels great to be appreciated,” explains the director.
The most awe-inspiring part of the film however, is the breathtaking action sequence shot in Hamsala Deevi. “We shot the episode with a crew of 690 people. But it’s not just the visual spectacle of the stunts that resonate with the audience. The emotional pull of the family bonding and the love story between Rakul and Srinivas are what made the viewers root for the hero in the action sequences,” says Boyapati.
Interestingly, the film revolves around Rakul Preet’s character, Janaki, which is a refreshing change from how misogynistic most Tollywood potboilers portray girls. “Janaki’s character is what drives the story. My movies have always had female protagonists forming the crux of the story. They’ve never been there for the sake of it as glam dolls.”
