From gorging on festive delicacies to staying away from crackers, celebrities reveal their Diwali plans to Hyderabad Times
SHRIYA SARAN This year, Im celebrating Diwali in Mumbai with my parents. We perform a puja and then spend time with our relatives and friends and savour the Diwali special dishes churned out by my mom. This year, my dad has designed a new
uplighter, which will be decorated with lightning and stuff.
But I never burst firecrackers.
PRANITHA SUBHASH Diwali is one of my favourite festivals and luckily this year, I have an off from the shooting. So Ill celebrate with my family. Post the Diwali puja, we have a huge get-together of family and friends. I have never been crazy about firecrackers, and this year too I wont be bursting any.
HARIPRIYA As kids, dad would get us a lot of firecrackers during Diwali. But these days, we dont light any due to the pollution. This year, Ill be spending Diwali with my parents and relatives. We perform a puja at the Devi temple and mom makes some amazing festive cuisine.Ariselu is my favourite.
RANA DAGGUBATI Im not a huge fan of rackers. When I was young, I had a great time bursting them with cousins and friends. But as I grew older, I understood the harmful effects it had on the environment. Gradually, I stopped and today, I cannot bear the smell and noise of crackers. This Diwali will be special because my sister Malavika, who got married earlier this year, is coming home from Bengaluru. This will be her first Diwali post marriage and Im looking forward to having a jolly good time with family, savouring traditional delicacies.
PARINEETI CHOPRA Since Im shooting in Hyderabad this year, I wont be home to celebrate Diwali with my family. Of course, Ill miss the Laxmi puja, decorating the house and gorging on yummy mithais.
NAMRATA SHIRDOKAR Diwali is going to be a quiet family affair this year. Mahesh is shooting in the city, so hell be home to spend time with us. Id love to have an eco-friendly Diwali, but my son, Gautam, loves patakhaas too much. Diwali for children is usually the joy of bursting crackers and when they are young, it is impossible to convince them. My kitchen staff is also dishing out lots of Maharashtrian snacks like chivdas etc., just like its done at my maternal place. So Im looking forward to it.
LAKSHMI MANCHU Since my grandfather passed away this year, my father and brothers cannot celebrate Diwali. And because Im the only daughter, tradition permits them to come over to my place for a small celebration. Nanagaru, Amma, Vishnu, Manoj, Vinni and my twin nieces, Ari and Vivi, will be coming home. Like every year, this year too, we will have traditional Rayalseema food. The kitchens will whip up dishes non-stop from early morning till late evening today.A flavourful lamb curry is made during this day,and my dad gets the lamb chops for this dish all the way from a shop in Tirupati. Everything, from the rice used to make idlis to the lentils for the vadas, come from our hometown. This will be the first time Im hosting a Diwali brunch and Im elated to have them over at my place.
DIKSHA PANTH Diwali is one time of the year when I love to deck myself up in traditional attire. After shifting to Hyderabad four years ago, my family has adapted local traditions as well.We make murukus apart from our regular mithais. We adorn our verandah with rangolis and mom and I also wear mogra in our hair.
