Besides enjoying a superstar status from the past three decades, Bollywood actor
Ajay Devgn has bankrolled a handful of films as a producer and directed ‘U Me Aur Hum’ (2008), ‘Shivaay’ (2016) and the on-going ‘Mayday’. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the 51-year-old has brought the Hindi remake rights of Telugu crime comedy ‘Brochevarevarura’ for an undisclosed sum and is planning to bankroll it with Karan Deol and Abhay Deol as the leads.
While trade analyst Ramesh Bala has already confirmed the news on his social handle, an official confirmation is awaited from Ajay & Co.
The report added that the Hindi remake tentatively titled as Velley will be directed by Deven Munjal, who has previously worked on films like Chalte Chalte and Om Shanti Om as a production manager. “Velley is the official adaptation of Telugu crime comedy, Brochevarevarura. Ajay loved the concept and instantly bought the rights for it, so he could take it to a pan-India audience. The script is currently being written,” the source revealed to MM.
Starring Sree Vishnu,
Nivetha Thomas,
Nivetha Pethuraj, Satyadev, Rahul Ramakrishna and Priyadarshi in lead roles, “Brochevarevarura” proved that you don’t need over-the-top plots and big budgets to pull off a whacky, crazy comedy that makes you laugh and keeps you hooked right till the end. Both the Nivethas slipped effortlessly into their characters and director
Vivek Athreya was applauded for helming a gripping tale with just a handful of characters and a simple yet suspense filled plot.
Meanwhile, Devgn's upcoming film Maidaan will hit theatres on October 15, 2021, on the occasion of Dussehra. At present, he is directing Mayday starring himself,
Amitabh Bachchan and
Rakul Preet Singh.
