Maha Shivratri is a Hindu festival celebrated in honour of Lord Shiva. It typically falls on the 13th or 14th day of the Hindu month of Phalguna and is celebrated with great fervour all across India. Shivratri is a festival of great religious significance as it is believed that on this night Lord Shiva performed the Tandava Nritya or the dance of primordial creation, preservation and destruction.Devotees observe fasts and take part in special pujas and rituals to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. Special poojas are held throughout the night, and devotees chant mantras and sing devotional songs in his honour.
