Tollywood writer Satyamurthy passes away
On Monday, the Telugu film industry woke up to the sad news of the demise of Sathyamurthy the eminent writer-lyricist who gave Tollywood some of its most memorable hits of the 80s and 90s. The writer, who passed away in Chennai following a cardiac arrest, was 61. Satyamurthy started off as a school teacher and went on to become a struggling lyricist, before he finally found his footing in the film industry as a writer, with Devatha in 1982. Over the decades, he went on to write for some 90 films, and also churned out some career-changing hits for Chiranjeevi, including Khaidi No 786. Though he had been out of active action for some time now, Satyamurthy was always a part of the film industry. When seen at the audio lauch of Allu Arjun-starrer S/O Satyamurthy, for which his son and famous music director Devi Sree Prasad composed music, anchor Suma, had asked him, Did your son inspire the title of this film... A beaming Satyamurthy only gave a proud smile in response, he took great pride in DSPs success in the industry which he had worked so hard to break into. Ironically, DSP is now working on an NTR film which is titled, Naanaki Prematho (To dad, with love).
