The Tamil film, ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar,’ starring
Karthi and Kriti Shetty was released in theatres on January 14. After its box office run, the film hit digital screens in both Tamil and Telugu dubs. Released with the Telugu title ‘Annagaru Vostaru,’ its OTT release is reportedly being re-released after it received criticism from online audiences due to some visuals.
Direct OTT release for the Telugu version
The film is streaming on Prime Video. The Telugu dubbed version of the film is titled ‘Annagaru Vostaru’. Unlike the Tamil version, the Telugu version did not have a theatrical release. It premiered directly on the streaming platform on January 28, 2026, just two weeks after the film’s theatrical release.
Viewers mentioned an issue in the Telugu version: in the original version, the story includes references to legendary actor and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister
M. G. Ramachandran. The film shows visuals related to MGR while the characters talk about him in the dialogue. However, in the Telugu dialogues, the references were modified to mention the legendary Telugu actor and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister
N. T. Rama Rao. While the dialogues mentioned Senior NTR, the visuals still showed MGR.
This created a clear mismatch between the audio and visuals in the Telugu version. The issue soon drew criticism from audiences. As per a Koimoi report, after noticing the backlash, the streaming platform reportedly decided to fix the issue. The platform worked on updating the visuals in the Telugu version so they match the dialogues.
Streaming platforms resolve the issue
The corrected version of ‘Annagaru Vostaru’ is now set to be re-released on March 6, 2026. The updated version will include visuals referencing Senior NTR. Interestingly, actor Karthi himself appeared in a promotional video announcing the update.
