Vijay-Rashmika’s ‘Geetha Govindam’ crosses half-million mark at the American box-office

Opening to an overwhelming response on Independence Day, Vijay Deverakonda’s latest romantic comedy ‘Geetha Govindam’ has fetched over half a million dollars in the United States. Off to a solid start with an estimated earning of $400,000 from its Tuesday premiers, reports suggest that this film has surpassed the half million dollar mark already. ‘Geetha Govindam’ is allegedly giving stiff competition to Hollywood flicks by grabbing the second position in terms of ticket sales at the American box office.
At this rate, the Parasuram directorial is expected to hit the million dollar mark by this weekend and emerge as the third film for Vijay to do so, after ‘Pellichoopulu’ and ‘Arjun Reddy’.Going by the latest reports, ‘Geetha Govindam’ has grossed a total of Rs 16 crore worldwide on its opening day and is in no mood to slow down.
Though criticised for its wafer-thin storyline, the film has evoked genuine laughs with full marks to the sizzling chemistry between Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna. With terrific numbers all over, the film is expected to have a long run at theatres.
