crisis

Detailing how the pandemic has affected their

livelihood

and motivated them to compose songs on the crisis, Oggu Ravi speaks to Hyderabad Times and says, "We regularly recite Oggu Kathalu at Mallanna Patnalu, Beeraya Patnalu and Yellamma Patnalu. Patnalu means the processions of deity marriages that happen at temples. That is our livelihood. Apart from that when

Adding how summer is usually a peak season for folk performers, he adds, “And when it comes to summer, it is the main session for our livelihood, we usually get the chance to perform at various locations. And with the pandemic COVID-19 around now, we have no chance to step out. When we perform anywhere, there will be a crowd for sure and when that happens there is a chance of contracting diseases from one to other. So we have stopped all these activities and are following the government’s orders."

Stating that an artist cannot rest without doing anything, Ravi tells us about his motivation behind penning the recent number on health care workers, "Artists life is different from others, all of a sudden leaving everything and sitting at home felt unusual and as an artists, we felt that we should be useful to the society at this time and hence started writing stories on COVID-19. The first one which we released online about the awareness over pandemic generated a lot of appreciation and that encouraged us to write more. So, I thought of writing about the doctors who are fighting against the deadly virus for us by sacrificing their comforts. And in our latest release, we have addressed their sacrifices and the atrocities that they are facing. This song is our way of supporting them."

Detailing their shooting process in the time of lockdown he adds, "We are shooting the songs outside our villages on hilltops where no one can hear us. If we shoot anywhere in the village there is a chance of people gathering. We are taking proper precautions by wearing masks while shooting."
