HP’s big AI push: PCs, printers, and more coming soon with AI
HP is making a significant push towards integrating artificial intelligence (AI) across its products and services. That was the message HP CEO Enrique Lores sent out at the company’s Amplify event in Las Vegas. Lores, in an address to HP’s partners, said that with AI the company aims to not only personalise user experiences but also open new possibilities for businesses and individuals.Lores emphasised the potential of AI to create "personalized experiences that will provide employees with what they want and companies with what they need." He said this can be achieved through the development of AI-powered tools that can streamline workflows, boost productivity, and foster collaboration, ultimately leading to a more flexible and efficient work environment. One of the key highlights of HP's AI strategy lies in its next-generation AI-powered PCs. These machines will be equipped to run large language models (LLMs) locally on the device itself, as opposed to relying on cloud-based processing. Lores explained this decision by stating, "Think about yourself as a creative professional... The speed advantage would be very significant if you run it on the device." This approach prioritises both speed and security, as local processing eliminates the need for sensitive data to travel to the cloud, potentially mitigating security risks. Additionally, Lores suggests that local processing can be more cost-effective compared to utilising cloud services.HP is collaborating with Intel, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Nvidia on its big AI bet. Lores said that this is the moment of grasping the opportunity but warned that challenges will arise as tech companies adjust to the era of AI. “The possibilities are immense,” said Lores.
