Five time champions Mumbai Indians on Thursday became the first team to lose their first seven matches in an Indian Premier League season.
Chennai Super Kings defeated Rohit Sharma-led side by three wickets at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
The most successful franchise in the history of IPL, continued their horror run this season as they suffered their seventh successive defeat in the IPL 2022 to bag a dubious record for the worst-ever start in the history of the tournament.
MI surpassed the earlier joint record of Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals) and Royal Challengers Bangalore who started off with six defeats each in 2013 and 2019 respectively.
In the process, Sharma too claimed a dubious record of most ducks in IPL. He handed a simple catch to Mitchell Santner at mid-on and failed to give his team a good start.
With this, the MI opener now has 14 ducks, the most in the history of the IPL. He has now surpassed Piyush Chawal to register this unwanted record. Chawla had been dismissed for a duck 13 times in the IPL.
