The government has selected 755 personnel from across the country for police medals on the occasion of this year's Republic Day.

NEW DELHI: The government has selected 755 personnel from across the country for police medals on the occasion of this year's Republic Day.
Eleven of them have been selected for President's police medals for gallantry, 129 for Police medals for gallantry, 82 for President's police medals for distinguished services and the remaining 533 for Police medals for meritorious service.

CISF -- the paramilitary force which guards airports, key PSUs and some critical private sector establishments -- has bagged 24 of these medals whereas 12 have gone to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) -- the largest paramilitary force in the country -- has the lion's share for gallant performance as 68 of its officers and jawans were awarded the gallantry medals.
Fifteen CRPF officials, including a deputy commandant, have been awarded the gallantry awards posthumously. All of them had died during operations against Naxalites\insurgents.
Specialised protection and security units like Special Protection Group (SPG) and the elite commando force National Security Guard (NSG) will get four medals each. The BSF personnel have been selected for 51 such medals, including a police medal for gallantry.
