Both cases, deaths fall, but India still worst-hit country
NEW DELHI: For the third consecutive day, India reported below 1 lakh fresh cases and less than 2,000 deaths. The tally for Wednesday stood at 93,993 fresh cases and 1,780 new deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
While today’s death toll was less than 1,800 for the first time since April 19 (1,693 deaths reported on that day) country’s cumulative death figure increased by 4,351 as both Bihar and Maharashtra added old deaths to their overall count. Globally India continues to lead the tally of fresh cases by a huge margin as the latest figure reported by Brazil, which is the world’s second worst-hit country in daily cases was 37,156 fresh infections. Other countries that reported more than 10,000 new cases were Argentina, Colombia, US and Russia. Even in deaths, India remains the global leader and Brazil, Argentina and Colombia were the only other countries to report over 500 new deaths

’s cumulative death toll in Bihar jumped to 9,429. Tamil Nadu continues to lead the states in new cases as the state reported 17,321 fresh infections on Wednesday. Three other states — Kerala, Maharashtra and Karnataka reported over 10,000 cases. The case count was between 5,000 and 10,000 for Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal. On Wednesday, 25 states and UTs reported less than 1000 new cases.
