Finally, prayers were answered as Sunita Williams touched down at the Edwards Air ForceBase in California early morning on Saturday.
This was the 28thflight for Atlantis, and the first of four flights planned for 2007. In ajourney that saw a few technical problems cropping up, the major hurdle appearedto be the threat of thunderstorms lingering for too long to welcome back thespaceship. And, with a certain degree of trepidation, Atlantis weathered thestorm and descended to the earth as its wheels slowly opened and embraced theground.
The sojourn of Atlantis led to a world-record being broken.Sunita Williams crossed the milestone for longest uninterrupted stay by a womanin space last Saturday surpassing the 188-day, four-hour mark set by USastronaut Shannon Lucid in 1996 on a mission to the Russian Mir spacestation.
