Coronavirus live updates: India, World Bank sign $400 million project to support Covid affected people
India's Covid-19 caseload rose to 99.32 lakh with 26,382 infections being reported in a day, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 94.56 lakh, according to data updated by the Union health ministry on Wednesday. The total coronavirus infection tally mounted to 99,32,547, while the death toll rose to 1,44,096 with 387 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed. Stay here for all live updates

Bihar cabinet gives its nod to free Covid-19 vaccination
Inoculation of the entire population of Bihar for Covid-19 will be done free of cost upon the availability of the vaccine, the state cabinet resolved on Tuesday. The decision was taken at the first meeting of the cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar since the allocation of portfolios last month.

The World Health Organization said Tuesday it is in discussions with Pfizer and Moderna about possibly including their high-tech coronavirus vaccines among early jabs for poor countries at affordable prices. The WHO-backed Covax facility, created to ensure equitable access to Covid-19 vaccines around the world as they become available, is aiming to provide some two billion doses by the end of next year.

Amid reports of deadly fungal infection in recovering coronavirus patients leading to loss of eyesight, the Centre on Tuesday said Covid-19 can either be a mild disease without any symptom or a serious one with complications like these which have not occurred before. ENT surgeons at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) here had reported that they had seen 13 cases of "Covid-19-triggered mucormycosis" in the last 15 days.

SC says homeopathy practitioners can give medicines for mitigation of Covid-19, can't claim cure
The Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that homeopathy medical practitioners can prescribe medicines for prophylaxis, amelioration and mitigation of Covid-19 patients and the prescription has to be given only by institutionally qualified practitioners.

Maharashtra government has slashed the rates for RT-PCR, rapid antigen tests as well as for antibody tests further on Tuesday. Now, getting an RT-PCR test in a hospital or a laboratory will cost Rs 850 and home collection Rs 980 in Maharashtra.

SC asks states to give Rs 2,000 per month for education of children restored with families
Observing that Covid-19 has affected normal life since March and children did not had the opportunity to attend classes, the Supreme Court on Tuesday directed all the states to provide Rs 2,000 a month for the education of each child who was in a child care institution (CCI) and has now been restored to his or her family during the pandemic.

The Union health ministry on Tuesday said 29,000 cold chain points, 240 walk-in coolers, 70 walk-in freezers, 45,000 ice-lined refrigerators, 41,000 deep freezers and 300 solar refrigerators will be used for Covid-19 vaccine storage. Providing the details about cold-chain management at a press conference here, Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan said guidelines for estimation of electrical and non-electrical cold chain equipment and their strengthening have been issued to states by the Centre.

Covid-19 cases and deaths are declining in India which is very reassuring, the Centre said on Tuesday but cautioned against any laxity saying an overwhelming proportion of the country's population is still "very very susceptible" to the virus and the situation may escalate unexpectedly.
