INDORE: A local court on Monday issued summons to noted painter M F Hussain for allegedly playing up with the religious sentiments of the people by painting the picture of Bharat Mata in an obscene manner.
The summons was issued by the first class judicial magistrate Narendra Jain on a petition filed by a city-based advocate, Chandrasekhar Raikwar.
The case was filed under various sections of the IPC.
The petitioner alleged that by painting the picture of Bharat Mata in an obscene manner the painter has tried to disrupt the unity and diversity of the country and promoted vulgarity.
The court also asked Hussain to remain present in the court on March 22.
In the petition, Raikwar also cited earlier occasions when Hussain allegedly hurt the sentiments of the people by painting nude pictures of goddess Durga.
