Delhi police launches probe into alleged collection of women's personal data under guise of AAP's 'Mahila Samman Yojna'

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has formed several teams to investigate the camps which are allegedly collecting the personal information of women in the name of the AAP government's scheme "Mahila Samman Yojna," according to a senior official's statement on Sunday.

This action follows Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena's directive for an investigation into private individuals allegedly gathering women's personal information for a proposed AAP scheme in Delhi.

"There are 15 police districts in Delhi. We have ordered senior officers to form teams and investigate the entire matter properly. Teams will coordinate and work under the close supervision of DCPs," the senior police officer said.

The inquiry was initiated after Congress leader and New Delhi Assembly seat candidate Sandeep Dikshit raised concerns during his meeting with Saxena.

The LG's principal secretary issued a letter to the chief secretary and police commissioner stating, "Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor has desired the Chief Secretary to get an inquiry conducted through Divisional Commissioner in the matter of collection of personal details and forms by non-government people."

The communication instructed the police commissioner to direct field officers to take legal action against anyone found violating citizens' privacy by collecting personal information under the pretext of benefit enrolment.
Reports suggest AAP volunteers are conducting registrations for the scheme.

On December 25, Congress leader Dikshit discussed his concerns about the Mahila Samman Yojana with the LG. The scheme, promising to provide Rs 2,100 for women in Delhi, is AAP's key plank for the upcoming assembly elections.

"Any party can promise anything. If they said they would give Rs 2,100 if they win the elections, there was no issue. But they said that a scheme of Rs 1,000 is going on, and they will increase it to Rs 2,100. They are making you (women) fill forms for the scheme," the candidate pointed out.

Congress' complaint came a day after a couple of departments under Delhi govt clarified there was no such scheme and distanced themselves from AAP's promises.
