CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday asked home secretary Punjab to file an affidavit within a period of two weeks on retaining 43 convicted police officers in the state police.
While issuing the orders, division bench headed by acting Chief Justice M M Kumar directed the home secretary to inform the court about the action, which state has proposed to initiate against 1,398 tainted police officers facing criminal cases.
The orders were passed by the bench during resumed hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by an NGO. PIL had alleged that the state police has retained several policemen who are facing several heinous charges of rape, murder, kidnappings, etc.
