G7 Summit 2025 Live Updates: PM Narendra Modi arrives in Delhi after concluding his three-nation tour
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to US President Donald Trump and told him that India had paused strikes on Pakistan during Operation Sindoor only after Islamabad’s request.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Canada on Monday to participate in the G7 summit in Kananaskis, marking his first visit to the country in ten years.
PM Modi is currently on a four-day tour covering three nations — Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia. After completing the first leg of his trip in Cyprus, he went to Canada at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
This was PM Modi's sixth consecutive appearance at the G7 summit.
PM Modi also held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit. His visit came a little over a month after India's Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attacks.
The Prime Minister last visited Canada in 2015, a trip that helped elevate India-Canada relations to a strategic partnership.
In 2024, bilateral trade in goods between the two countries reached USD 8.6 billion, with India exporting goods worth USD 4.2 billion and importing USD 4.4 billion. Trade in services stood at USD 14.3 billion, with India’s exports valued at USD 2.5 billion and imports at USD 11.8 billion.
The G7 summit takes place against a backdrop of escalating global tensions, including the intensifying conflict between Iran and Israel and trade disputes driven by US President Donald Trump's tariff policies.
Canada took over the G7’s rotating presidency on January 1, 2025. This year’s gathering marks the 50th anniversary of the G7 summit.

India has been part of eleven G7 Outreach sessions so far, including summits hosted by France (2003, 2019), the UK (2005, 2021), Russia (2006), Germany (2007, 2022), Japan (2008, 2023), Italy (2009, 2024), and now Canada.
Key priorities at this year’s summit include: ‘Protecting our communities and the world’ — focusing on peace, security, countering foreign interference and transnational crime, and improving coordinated wildfire responses; ‘Building energy security and accelerating the digital transition’ — strengthening critical mineral supply chains and harnessing artificial intelligence and quantum technologies to drive economic growth; and ‘Securing the partnerships of the future’ — attracting large-scale private investment to develop resilient infrastructure, generate high-paying jobs, and open up competitive global markets.
