AMRITSAR: Body of Indian prisoner Chamel Singh who was beaten to death in Pakistan's KotLakhpat Jail may not arrive in India in the near future. The court directed Pakistani advocate Awaish Sheikh to approach the interior ministry.
In an email, Sheikh told TOI on Saturday that the high court had sustained objection put up by registrar and had directed him to approach the interior ministry.

He had filed a write seeking investigation into the circumstances that led to Chamel's death and action against the guilty.
Chamel Singh was allegedly beaten up by the staff of Kot Lakhpat Jail on January 15. Pakistani advocate Tehsin Khan claimed to have witnessed the thrashing of Chamel Singh. He had exposed the matter in media. Chamel Singh, a Jammu resident, was arrested in 2010 in Sialkot and was awarded five-year imprisonment for spying. He was taken to Central Jail, Kot Lakhpat, in June 2012.
