NEW DELHI: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha's candidate Sanjeet Kharel emerged victorious on Namthang-Rateypani seat after securing 8949 votes with a margin of 5605, as per the Election Commission of India.
Namthang-Rateypani assembly constituency is one of the assembly constituencies out of the 32 present in Sikkim, located in the southern part of the state.
The constituency went under polling on April 19 for the legislative assembly elections 2024. This constituency holds a crucial role in the state's political landscape, having witnessed significant electoral battles over the years.
In the 2019 Sikkim legislative assembly elections, the constituency saw Sanjeet Kharel from the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) emerge victorious over the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) candidate Birjan Tamang. The vote share in the constituency was 80.60% in 2019. Total voters during the previous assembly elections in 2019 were 15,451.
In the 2014 Sikkim legislative assembly elections, the constituency saw Tilu Gurung from Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) win the elections, while Prem Singh Tamang of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) came second.
The 2024 elections will see Suman Pradhan of the SDF, Sanjeet Kharel of SKM and Janak Kumar Gurung of the BJP battle it out for the constituency.
