VISAKHAPATNAM: Union minister of state for HRD Daggubati Purandeswari said that environment protection should be made an integral part of marine engineering.
Addressing a gathering at a national seminar on ship, offshore and port structures here on Monday, she said oil spills were causing severe damage to environment. Two accidents, which caused oil spills, and the disaster in Japan were the new challenges.
She said that in a highly-populated nation like India infrastructure building would play a key role to stop these oil spills.
ONGC executive director K Anjaneyulu said that ONGC was taking several measures to ensure minimum damage in the event of oil spills. He said that ONGC was going to increase its production to 70 per cent in the coming years.
