Another portion of the verandah in the 'L' shaped building was hanging precariously, police said.
Firemen and police rescued the trapped persons.
Kolkata Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya said that Kolkata Municipal Corporation's buildings department personnel had rushed to the spot.
About 12 to 13 families, stated to be descendants of Rani Rashmoni, resided in the building, the police said.
