PM Modi Laos Visit Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a two-day trip to Laos on Thursday morning to participate in the 21st Asean-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit. The visit to Vientiane was initiated by an invitation from Sonexay Siphandone, the Prime Minister of Laos.
Jaideep Mazumdar, the secretary (East) of the ministry of external affairs, stressed the great importance India attaches to all mechanisms related to Asean. He affirmed, "India places immense value on all ASEAN-related mechanisms." Furthermore, Mazumdar said that the upcoming meeting will determine the trajectory of the relationship between India and ASEAN in the future.
While addressing a special briefing on PM Modi's visit to Laos on Wednesday, Mazumdar said, "Prime Minister Modi will be travelling to Vientiane in Lao PDR, for the 21st Asean-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit at the invitation of Prime Minister of Lao PDR, Sonexay Siphandone. The visit will be over 10th and 11th October. We attach great significance to all Asean-related mechanisms. This will be the Prime Minister's tenth attendance at the Asean-India Summit."

Speaking to news agency ANI, Agarwal highlighted the significance of India's participation, saying, "Our participation is especially remarkable because we are marking ten years of our Act East Policy. This policy is an outcome of the PM's visionary leadership under which our engagement with not just the Asean countries but with the wider Indo-Pacific has undergone a transformational change. It is reflected in all areas of our engagement, the multidimensional connectivity engagements, partnerships on trade and people-to-people contacts. So this policy has been robust and dynamic in implementation and it's an apt occasion for us to celebrate it again."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his optimism regarding his trip to Laos, where he will participate in the Asean-India and East Asia summits. He said that this visit will strengthen ties with Asean nations. Modi highlighted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of India's Act East policy.
"I will join the Asean leaders to review progress in our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and chart the future direction of our cooperation," the prime minister said.
The East Asia Summit will provide an opportunity to deliberate on the challenges to peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, he said.
