NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will visit the flood-affected areas of Gujarat and Maharashtra on Thursday to take stock of the magnitude of the devastation. Singh, who spoke to the Chief Ministers of flood-affected Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Orissa on Monday, is likely to review the situation with senior officials to help expedite relief, rescue and rehabilitation measures.
The Prime Minister himself is keeping a close watch of the situation in the states affected by heavy rains and floods. Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil will also visit some of the flood-affected areas of Andhra Pradesh tomorrow.
He will be accompanied by senior officials of the Ministry, Union Home Secretary VK Duggal told reporters after an inter-ministerial meeting to review the flood situation in different parts of the country. Under instructions from the Prime Minister, the Home Ministry is providing full support to flood relief. Besides these states, the PMO is closely monitoring the flood situation in Chhattisgarh as well, he added.
