Preeti Jain who alleged that Bhandarkar sexually exploited will play the role of bar girl Tarannum Khan.
MUMBAI: Bollywood starlet Preeti Jain, who was in the news for allegedly conspiring to kill film producer Madhur Bhandarkar, is finally getting a break in the mainstream cinema. Jain, who earlier alleged that Bhandarkar sexually exploited her on promising a role in films, will play the role of bar dancer Tarannum Khan, who also hit the headlines recently after being booked for her involvement in a cricket betting racket.
"The film is inspired by Tarannum, though it is not totally based on her life," Preeti Jain said on tuesday, happy with the role she has bagged for her first commercial film. Preeti and Tarannum had developed a bond during their judicial remand in connection with the respective cases and Preeti had the opportunity to watch the latter's mannerisms closely, "though it was not deliberate at that time", she said...
... Titled 'Deepa Ka Tarannum', the film will be produced by Ranjit Sharma, directed by Satyam Satyarthi, while the lead male role will be played by superstar Amir Khan's brother, Haider Ali Khan, she said. Sanjeev Darshan will compose music for the film. Preeti, however, said she had previously acted in a film titled 'Sub Kuch', later changed to 'Bikau' and produced by B R Ishara, which was an experimental film. "I have also done a seven-minute short film produced by actress Zeenat Aman," the starlet said.
According to Preeti, the 'muhurat' of the film will be held on wednesday, and the producer wishes to rope in real bar dancers and bar staff, to provide authencity to the film... ... "The film will portray the struggle of bar dancers and the problems in their lives, particularly after the closure of dance bars in Maharashtra", Preeti said. "It also displays their exploitation by police and other segments, and is a sort of tribute to bar dancers (in Mumbai)". For Preeti, who was stuck up in legal battle, first after her alleged sexual exploitation by Bhandarkar and later for her alleged 'supari' (contract) to an aide of gangster turned politician Arun Gawli to eliminate Bhandarkar, the new film brings a welcome change. "The future looks good," Preeti said adding that her father was also happy with the developments. "Finally things are falling in place," she added.
