PONDICHERRY: N Rangasamy was on thursday sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Pondicherry by Lt Governor M M Lakhera.
The 55-year-old Rangasamy, who was sworn in as the Chief Minister for the second successive time, took the oath of office and secrecy in Tamil and in the name of god.
Earlier, Pondicherry Chief Secretary C S Khairwal read out the Presidential notification appointing Rangasamy as the Chief Minister of the Union Territory.

Under the Union Territory Act, the president appoints the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers. A maximum of six ministers are permissible for the Union Territory.
Lakhera administered the oath at a simple function held in a pandal set up in the Raj Nivas grounds for the purpose.
Those present included AICC treasurer Motilal Vohra, former chief minister and Pondicherry DMK chief R V Janakiraman, former chief ministers S Ramaswamy and V Vaithilingam, Pondicherry Congress President P Shanmugham, the French Dy Consul Michel Seguy and government officials.
Representatives of the DMK, PMK and CPI, partners of the Congress-led alliance in the Union Territory, who will be providing outside support to the Rangasamy government, were also present.
The Congress has 10 members in the 30-member legislative assembly while the DMK has seven, PMK two and CPI one.
Other ministers of the Rangasamy cabinet are expected to be inducted soon.
Rangasamy had taken over the mantle of Chief Minister for the first time in late 2001 from Pondicherry Congress President P Shanmugham who had failed to fulfill the Constitutional obligation of getting himself elected to the assembly within six months of assuming office.
