NEW DELHI: Inadequate professional competence in the work force is holding back the manufacturing sector from becoming self-sufficient, Union labour minister Sahib Singh Verma said here on Wednesday.
He said that inspite of having a huge reservoir of talented human resources, "we have not been able to harness this precious resource to its optimum potential".
This is the reason that India has not achieved self-sufficiency in the manufacturing sector.
He said there were many reasons for inadequate professional competence in the work force.
These included lack of commitment and appropriate attitude and the right ambience at the place of work to recognise, reward and motivate workers towards performing better. He also included the absence of safety and health measures for workers as the causes.
