Shankar Mahadevan, Gurdas Mann perform at Sadhguru's Mahashivratri festival
COIMBATORE: The Mahashivratri festival at Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore on Friday witnessed a diverse array of performances ranging from renowned artists to folk performers, hip-hop, rap artists, drummers, and bands. It was inaugurated by Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar.
"The Mahashivratri celebrations at Isha Yoga Center transcend language, nationality, religion, and culture, a rare unifying spectacle, and a great need for the present day world. The methods offered here are unique, with four paths - Bhakti, Kriya, Karma, and Gyan. This comprehensive approach satisfies the thirst and anxiety of every individual on the planet,” said Dhankhar.
The theme for the festival was the city of Varanasi and this reflected in all the decorations. “A Tower of Light and Adiyogi's limitless Grace. Our fortune to be celebrating #Mahashivratri in the ambience of "Kashi" at Adiyogi!” Sadhguru said in a post on X.
The night-long festivities started off with Adiyogi Divya Darshnam and songs by Sounds of Isha, Isha’s homegrown band.
Indian Idol 12 winner Pawandeep Rajan, Carnatic vocalist Sandeep Narayan and singer Prithvi Gandharv captivated the audience with their performances.
Padma Shri-winning singer and music director Shankar Mahadevan enthralled the attendees with his rendition of 'Ekadantaya Vakratundaya' followed by the powerful 'Shiv Tandav Strota'. Sadhguru and singer Sandeep Narayan joined Mahadevan for a joint performance that was an ode to the Cauvery River.
Punjabi singer Gurdas Mann too regaled the audience with his energetic act.
Among the other performers were Thalica Project, folk musicians from Kutch and the Dharavi Dream Project.
Thiru RN Ravi, governor of Tamil Nadu, Sri Indrasena Reddy, governor of Tripura, Shri Banwarilal Purohit, governor of Punjab, Thiru L Murugan, minister of state for the ministry of information and broadcasting, fisheries, animal husbandry, and dairy, were also present at the festival.
Thousands of devotees thronged the Isha Yoga Center for the mega event.
