Woman, lover sentenced to death in UP for killing 7 family members

AMROHA (UP): A court today sentenced to death a woman and her lover for killing seven members of her family, including an 18-month-old child, after her parents opposed their relationship.
Sessions Judge S A A Husaini awarded capital punishment to Shabnam and her lover Saleem for killing her father Shaugar Ali (60) and mother Hasmi (55), the couple's two sons, daugter-in-law, niece and grandson Arsh (18 months) on the night of April 14, 2008 in village Bhavankheri here in Jyotiba Pule Nagar district.
Shabnam was pregnant when she committed the crime. She gave birth to a child in jail who is now 15 months old.
Prosecution alleged that the couple committed the crime as Shabnam's family was opposed to their relationship.
The two were arrested on 19 April and during the hearing, 29 witnesses were presented by the prosecution.
The counsel for the accused Arshad Ansari had charged the prime witness with falsely implicating Shabnam in the case.
