From rosemary water to rice water, natural hair remedies are now taking on the commercial skincare business. And in this sea, Indian ingredients are making waves. Currently, the internet is going gaga over dalchini, i.e., cinnamon water, which Ayurveda has long celebrated for its medicinal properties. Many beauty influencers and experts claim that dalchini water helps hair growth, reduces hair fall, and improves overall scalp health. Let’s see how.

Cinnamon contains compounds that may support a healthy scalp environment by improving blood circulation to hair follicles, reducing inflammation, strengthening hair roots, and balancing the scalp microbiome. As it addresses these factors, it promises to support hair growth. It also reduces hair fall by taming scalp inflammation, which is often linked to hair shedding. Dalchini water contains anti-inflammatory properties that soothe irritation and create a healthier environment for hair growth.

You will need 2 dalchini sticks and boil them in 2 cups of water. Simmer both for 15 minutes and allow the mixture to cool down. Strain, transfer, and use this water in a spray bottle. You can also use cinnamon powder, adding 1 tablespoon to 2 cups of warm water. Let the mixture sit overnight and strain it before use.

You can directly use this as a scalp spray by applying it, gently massaging for 5 minutes, and leaving it on for half an hour. Next, wash it with mild shampoo. Another way to use it is as a hair rinse: after shampooing, pour it over the scalp and hair, leave it for a few minutes, and then rinse your locks with a gentle conditioner. Lastly, combine it with coconut oil, rosemary oil, almond oil, and castor oil for better nourishment.

If you’re struggling with eczema or psoriasis on the scalp, or have a cinnamon allergy, open wounds, or chronic scalp sensitivity, then avoid dalchini water application. Lastly, use it only twice a week, and always use a diluted cinnamon mixture. Stay consistent for at least 12 weeks and combine it with your scalp massages for better circulation.
