There! Didnt we tell you this was gonna happen? That the much-talked about and much-anticipated Mens Fashion Week is finally to take off, with dates in place, finally, and with the final sponsor being Madura Garments? Thats how it is. Now, of course, everythings signed and all, and official. Itll now be called the Van Heusen India Mens Week, will be held in Delhi from September 11-13, and will showcase everything thats got to do with men and fashion apparel, accessories, etc.
This week, which will be a three-day long event (phir yeh week kyun hai?) will have 15 shows in all. The names doing the rounds for participation include Ashish Soni, Raghavendra Rathore, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Vijay Arora, Arjun Khanna, Manoviraj Khosla, JJ Valaya, Rohit Bal, Rohit Gandhi-Rahul Khanna and Varun Bahl.
Of course, thats one more fashion week on Delhis social calendar. So, while the men take out their best shirts and the women agonise over what to wear for so many fashion weeks, FDCI chief Sunil Sethi is all quotes. This has been a dream project for me at FDCI for a while. This partnership is going to be a win-win situation for all. This week will provide a platform for young and upcoming designers.Talking of partnerships, there was an alternative proposal of a Mens Week in the pipeline for a while, with the FDPC talking to Sahara on the possibility of sponsoring it as well (apart from the sponsorship of the Couture Week which Sahara is apparently keen on, to give an upmarket brand association to Amby Valley). Now, however, this is in all probability the Mens Fashion Week that were going to see, and the only question to be addressed is the nuances and specifics of the FDCI-FDPC association. The FDPC may have been miffed at the move sans its involvement, but the FDCIs promptly gone on record to say that it is keen to have one Mens Week and will be happy to organise the IMW jointly with FDPC, subject to the Boards approval which, given the vibes in the design fraternity, should not be a problem. With dates, venue and sponsor in place, the rest of it should fall into place smoothly enough, assuming the fash frats organisational strongmen Sethi and Vijay Singh can work the rest of it out. An FDCI-FDPC collaborative project amidst talk of the possibility of the FDCI merging with the FDPC at some point in the future promises a lot of action, both on and off the ramp!
