While long kaftan as a ‘one-piece’ attire is complete in itself, the festive season is witnessing a surge in kaftans paired with pants and skirts, too.

Designer Purva Pardeshi says the metamorphosis of kaftans from being a comfortable clothing to festive wear, has been a refreshing trend. “During the festive season, people are styling the kaftans with embroidery details. While the attire in black hues is a rage, many are also teaming it up with dhoti skirts and dupattas to give a traditional touch,” she says.

Noted designer Monisha Jaising, says, “The extended longer side creates an asymmetrical hem length, making the dress super stylish and uplifting. It will be the perfect outfit for festivals.”
Choosing the right festive kaftan
Kaftans can be styled without fuss; however, one needs to pick a piece that does not look like a wear-at-home outfit.
Opting for the right fabric and colour does the trick. Purva says, “My personal favourite is the one with a neckline detail of intricately done Kashmiri embroidery and that looks classy when worn during the festive time.”

Monisha suggests, “Kaftans and kurtis paired with palazzos and dhotis make for the ultimate party look. Go for colours like golden, burgundy, blue, green, and shades of pink along with floral patterns. Sequined kaftans with embroidery can also be a great pick; a classy belt can be a good addition. Floral patterns and tie and dye look great.”
Accessories make all the difference
The pandemic has changed our idea of fashion accessories and now masks have become an inseparable part of our look. “I think our biggest accessory is matching or a customised mask right now. You can also uplift your look to trendy and fashionable with hair bands, hoop earrings and for most of us, a messy bun would complete the look” shares Purva.

"Georgette and silk kaftans with sequins can be paired with elegant stud earrings. You can create your own designs by wearing pants or adding jewellery and a belt. Match with a pair of jutis, strappy heels, stilettos, or ethnic sandals and you are ready to rock the upcoming festives," advises Monisha.
