
India is a land of flavours, cultures, and talents. Here every region of every state offers something different that defines their uniqueness and such peculiar food, culture, or art is celebrated with a recognition called Geographical Indications (GI Tag). For the unversed, geographical indications, also known as GI tags, are signs that celebrate the specific geographical origin and possess qualities and characteristics that are essentially attributable to that place of origin. The most recent win was by Meeerut's Gajak and Rewri in the month of December when the 121-year-old sweet of Meerut received the tag. These are winter sweets and are made with sesame seeds, jaggery, and peanuts.

In April 2025, Nolen Gurer Sandesh of Bengal, gained the prestigious GI tag. For the unversed, it is a sweet made with fresh chhena and date palm jaggery also known as nolen gur.

This sweet also received the reputed GI tag in April 2025 and is made with fresh chhena, which are shaped in small balls and dunked in sugar syrup. It is said to have culinary influences from the Mughal era and has a gentle chew centre.

This is a unique laddoo which is made from piyal (Indian almond tree) seed flour instead of the usual besan. These pearls are deep fried in ghee and seasoned with cardamom. which makes them very aromatic.

It is a traditional jaggery made by crushing fresh sugarcane and slow-boiling the juice over a wood fire. It received the tag in December 2025 and is said to have zero chemicals, sulphur or refining. It is known for its dark golden-brown colour, soft-power like texture, deep caramel aroma, and rich mineral content.
