It was somewhat of a surprise to discover that well known foodie Kamala Harris, who touts Sunday family dinners as essential, says she eats "no" for breakfast. In 2022, during an interview with Forbes, Harris, who made history in 2020 as the first woman of Indian and African descent to occupy the office, quipped, “I don't skip breakfast. I actually don't skip the first meal of the day.”

While Harris' mornings are certainly busy, she makes sure to make time for a simple yet healthy breakfast. Speaking to an international website in 2018, she replied that her go-to meal in the morning was ‘Raisin Bran with Almond Milk’. Hanging out of her kitchen counter while eating, Harris shared her daily schedule. The same news report said that she orders her Raisin Bran from a local grocery store and keeps it low on sugar. This fast, practical breakfast is a habit that most hectic individuals can adopt. After her oatmeal, Harris unwinds with a cup of tea- sweetened honey and a squeeze of lemon-a refreshing combination to get her started off right for the big day.

Kamala Harris, though busy, has not dispensed with the custom of a family Sunday dinner. In 2023, she said in an interview on a television show that these dinners help her stay centred and focused amid the demands of her political life. Maintaining the sense of family and tradition in gathering speaks to the personal values and deep-rooted love for food. Harris even teased that she might one day publish a cookbook-most probably one that will contain the recipes and food culture that have informed her life. Considering how much passion she has for cooking, it is not so impossible to think of her culinary perspective shared with the world.
