In the Instagram video, the gastroenterologist revealed that the one superfruit that supports gut health is papaya. It is one of the best fruits for our gut as it also helps with heartburn, bloating, and constipation.

How to consume it?

As per Dr Salhab, it is great on its own, can also be blended into a smoothie with ice, a sweetener of choice like honey or cinnamon, and regular or coconut milk to make it creamy. “This creates a nice gut-healthy smoothie for the morning,” he added.

What does study say?

As per a study, rich in enzymes like papain, papaya facilitates the breakdown of proteins, enhancing digestion and alleviating issues such as bloating and constipation. Its high fiber content supports regular bowel movements, while antioxidants like vitamin C and beta-carotene contribute to overall gut health by combating oxidative stress and inflammation. Additionally, the low caloric density of papaya, combined with its hydrating properties, makes it an ideal food for weight management. Incorporating papaya into a balanced diet can promote satiety and reduce overall caloric intake, further supporting weight loss efforts. Another study states that papaya preparation contributes to the maintenance of digestive tract physiology. It ameliorates various functional disturbances, like symptoms of IBS as well.

Other benefits of papaya

Papaya's natural enzymes and antioxidants help remove dead skin cells, clear pores, and prevent wrinkles. It also promotes wound healing and infections in burned skin. It is said that when papaya is consumed as the first thing in the morning, it helps smooth the gut, boost digestion and promotes healthy and glowing skin. Papaya is rich in potassium, fiber, and vitamins, which help prevent heart-related issues. These nutrients help normalize cholesterol levels and improve blood flow, reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. It is low in sugar content and rich in fiber, which helps regulate blood sugar levels. It is said to help prevent hypertension by maintaining stable blood sugar levels. As per experts, the papain enzyme acts as a pain reliever and helps control inflammation through cytokine production.
