Benefits of tender coconut

According to Sadhguru's post, the juice of young tender coconut is nature's solution to help replenish the potassium, other electrolytes and water that the body needs when dehydrated. It is also a natural, low-calorie energy drink that reduces body heat. In his post he has also mentioned that according to Ayurveda, coconut water helps in digestion and clears the urinary path. It is used to treat urinary stones as well as certain intestinal disturbances. When applied externally, it effectively prevents rashes and other skin conditions, especially those due to heat. It contains essential electrolytes such as potassium, sodium, magnesium, and calcium, which help maintain fluid balance and prevent dehydration. Moderate consumption of coconut oil may help improve good cholesterol (HDL) levels, supporting overall heart and metabolic health. Coconut extracts display antimicrobial properties effective against bacteria, fungi, and viruses, and have antioxidant activities that help fight oxidative stress and inflammation. The enzymes and fiber in tender coconut water and flesh promote smooth digestion and relieve acidity or bloating.

What does the study say?

According to a study titled Coconut water of different maturity stages ameliorates inflammatory processes in model of inflammation, it is found that the use of young coconut water is for potent anti-inflammatory effect and mature coconut water for moderate anti-inflammatory effect. The study states that the composition and quantity of coconut water changes as the fruit matures. It is said that its rich mineral content, especially potassium, magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus, supports hydration, muscle function, heart health by regulating blood pressure, and bone strength. It also has antibacterial properties due to lauric acid, helping improve insulin sensitivity and blood sugar control. And as per experts, coconut water can improve exercise performance by enhancing hydration and electrolyte balance compared to plain water. Moreover, coconut water has been traditionally used for rehydration in infants with diarrhea due to its natural electrolytes and nutrition. It also may promote healthier-looking skin by boosting collagen synthesis. The nutritional value of young coconut includes 94.18 g water, 0.12 g protein, 5.23 g total sigar,6.40 magnesium, and 4.66 phosphorus.

It also contains nutrients like Vitamin B5, potassium and fiber. Modern laboratory research shows that pomegranate helps reduce the high risk factors of heart disease. Pomegranate juice may improve memory and cognitive function by reducing oxidative stress in the brain, supporting better memory retention and brain health. Study on benefits of pomegranate

According to a study titled Potent health effects of pomegranate and published by the National Library of Medicine, pomegranates can help prevent or treat various disease risk factors including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, oxidative stress, hyperglycemia, and inflammatory activities. It is demonstrated that certain components of pomegranate such as polyphenols have potential antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticarcinogenic effects. The antioxidant potential of pomegranate juice is more than that of red wine and green tea, which is induced through ellagitannins and hydrolysable tannins. Pomegranate juice can reduce macrophage oxidative stress, free radicals, and lipid peroxidation. Moreover, pomegranate fruit extract prevents cell growth and induces apoptosis, which can lead to its anticarcinogenic effects. It also highlights that pomegranate juice is a good source of fructose, sucrose, and glucose. It also has some of the simple organic acids such as ascorbic acid, citric acid, fumaric acid, and malic acid. In addition, it contains small amounts of all amino acids, specifically proline, methionine, and valine. Both the juice and peel are rich in polyphenols. Interestingly, the pomegranate tree's bark and roots are rich sources of chemicals called alkaloids. They are carbon-based substances; they were used to treat worms in the human gastrointestinal tract in traditional medicine. It is mentioned in the study that per 100 g of raw pomegranate offers 1.67 g protein, 77.93 g water, 4.0 g fiber, 13.67 g total sugar, 10 mg calcium, and 12 mg magnesium.

Did you know?

According to Sadhguru's post, the Tamil name for pomegranate, maadulampazham, is a metaphor for a woman's mind. The word is derived from three terms: maadhu - woman, ullam - mind, and pazham - fruit. The seeds are hidden, which symbolises the difficulty of deciphering a woman's mind. This poetic interpretation blends language, culture, and observation, revealing how ancient Tamil expressions often used nature to mirror human emotions, thoughts, and mysteries, turning everyday fruits into deeper symbols of understanding. It reflects the Tamil tradition of infusing beauty, philosophy, and insight into simple words, creating metaphors that transcend time and remain relevant even today, reminding us how observation and poetry were once inseparable in describing human nature and the world around it.
