Oral sex is illegal in India, yet it is quite prevalent in the country. A survey done by a leading daily revealed that 45 per cent people confirmed having indulged in oral sex at some point in their life.

It is a big misconception that only women do it to men. Well, they get it done too. However, what most of them don't know is that 'getting it' comes with its set of potential health risks.

We spoke to a gynecologist to know how it affects a woman's vagina. For the uninitiated, both mouth and vagina have natural environment of bacteria and if both partners are healthy, engaging in oral sex may not pose any threat.

However, if the man has sores in his mouth, getting in contact with the vaginal skin may run the risk of transferring it to you - leading to genital herpes.

The risk doesn't end here. A woman can also contract chlamydia or gonorrhea along with the dreadful HIV if the man is infected. The risk is not for the woman alone. If a man gives oral sex while the girl is menstruating, he can catch infections via bodily fluid contact. So stay safe!
